Thanks for voicing what I have been thinking for years. Kinda cool that you are in Oakland where I was born and raised. I came Drupal a decade ago from Typo3 ezpublish and Midgard. I was a bit divergent in that I warned the comminity against over engineering (drupal loosingtraction by being too much like Typo 3) and the lack of the use of PHP5 going forward. I was summarily branded, black balled .. what have you. I tried to alleviate someof the shortcomings I saw by forking Drupal to make it php5 compatible. Again branded as being a 'forker' ;) The was a much talk about how my Nostradamus moments would never become real. Yet here we are. Backdrop is a necessity and I will support it as much as I can. I will also continue on a path that I started back in the d5.5 days by working on my own fork again. Because OOP in PHP is good and easy to learn and use, it is the future of web development. But OOP does no have to be a monolithic one size fits all kind of thing or a single paradigm from a single source or even multiple sources claiming to be a single one.. So I will prove my point yet again with real world coding. I will not be starting any community but going the lone-wolf route and making my code and ideas available to all on git hub without pre-judgement. Just take the code and do it! do it your way if you happen to get a viable and thriving community going then go with it! If it make you some cash along the way I am happy for you!
