If you and others are going to invest in such a big effort and time, why not invest the same without forking and spreading the community? Here is some suggestions: 1. Develop a module or something else that convert from D7 to D8 and from D8 to D7. 2. Create an initiative/task-force with volunteer to port anything one can imagine (this can be fun if we create contest with prizes, trips, conference, etc...) 3. Create a proposal including data backing up the "anti-D8 sentiment" or "D8fobia" and push the Drupal core team to be sensitive to it, maybe they will do suggestion 1 and 2. 4. Create a "Pre-D8" group inside Drupal community to brain-storm the D7 to D8 and D8 to D7, I am sure we can come with dozen of idea the does not require dividing the community. I just don't like the idea of splitting the community, Drupal is Drupal and is Drupal because the way things are done on Drupal, and if we like Drupal we should stick together. Think about how many more things cold we do, how strong would be, if Linux did not had so many forks, some of the distro only have a different logo. We have diversity like Windows, iOS, Unix, Linux and I believe that is a good balance, but Linux is out of control and the amount of time one expend deciding witch one to use is too much.
