I like the idea of forking D7. I must have spent 150+ hours learining Drupal 7. I'm guessing D8 will bring another 150+ hours of learning.... Maybe less since I will have lots of D7 experience by then. Learning Drupal does have it's rewards. Lots of demand at every level amd D8 should add to that since it is adding lots of complexity. There needs to be something between WordPress which I like and hate. i like it's user simplicity and hate it counter intuitiveness from the development standpoint. I'd guess it might be 2 to 4 years before the Backdrop community begins to form. I'm interested now. I do not see any modules. Maybe they are on GitHub? For the things I like to build, I only need a handful of modules. I really like the idea of you wanting to build Backdrop to run a cheap virtual hosting. D7 runs good on cheap vhosting.... until you add a couple modules... then it slows.

To post pieces of code, surround them with <code>...</code> tags. For PHP code, you can use <?php ... ?>, which will also color it based on syntax.
