I share your concerns about modules being ported from Drupal 7 to Backdrop. But I'm even more worried about those modules being ported from Drupal 7 to Drupal 8, because it "scares the heck out of" a lot of people. That's exactly why we are working on Backdrop. The goal is not to change too much from Drupal 7 so that the process of porting should be relatively straightforward. If all you had to do was change an info file to a yaml file, and change some variables to configurations - you might even feel empowered to port those modules yourself! *that might be a bit of an understatement - but you get the point

Basic
To post pieces of code, surround them with <code>...</code> tags. For PHP code, you can use <?php ... ?>, which will also color it based on syntax.
Web page addresses and email addresses turn into links automatically, unless the parent tag has the 'nolink' class.
Lines and paragraphs break automatically.
