Kudos, Jen. I create Drupal sites and modules, but that's not my job. My goal is to help university faculty use learning research results in their courses. Drupal is a means to that end. It lets me create formative feedback systems, course design visualization tools, SWIM (show-what-I-mean) editors, pseudents (pseuo students), and other Good Things. I chose D6 to start this project, in part because I could program D6. Notice that I'm the one doing the programming. There is no professional software engineer available. Suppose I had been making that decision now, not a few years ago. D8 would violate one of the constraints of my project: no software engineers. D8 would not be programmable - for me, right now. I would have to learn professional s/w engineering practices. While I was doing that, I would not be making progress on my project. The reality in my world: Drupal is less important than my project. I'll use whatever tech gets the job done. Yes, I'm a techno ho. What would I use instead? Maybe WordPress. It has gained some Drupally features since v3, such as field-like things. Maybe one of the Pythonic CMSen. Python is Good. But I would have to check, to make sure they were more D7ish than D8ish. Bottom line: hooray for Backdrop! Hooray for Jen! Jen! Jen! JEN! JEN! Kieran
