Thanks for your support. To address your questions: 1. Yes, we are already focused on performance, have found some slow parts in Drupal 7 and are working on solutions. We plan to push this further. 2. Originally we decided not to remain API compatible with Drupal 7, since committing to the same APIs in D7 means committing to a system that is already too confusing, and possibly already too slow. However, we are hearing from the community that this compatibility is really important to a lot of people, so we may re-think that decision.

To post pieces of code, surround them with <code>...</code> tags. For PHP code, you can use <?php ... ?>, which will also color it based on syntax.
Web page addresses and email addresses turn into links automatically, unless the parent tag has the 'nolink' class.
Lines and paragraphs break automatically.
