Frankly speaking, I don't understand this buzz and flutter. Everyone sounds like D7 is going to vanish, and it is dead as soon as D8 hits the scene?!?! Why not simply maintain and contribute to D7 like before? If D8 is so different, it will need time to catch-up in regards of modules anyway. I see absolutely no reason why those two versions should have problems in coexistence?! Regarding backdrop: Why a "fork" for people that want to stay with D7? If there was a need for a fork and changes, why now and not earlier? Now it sounds to me like a "replacement for a vanishing D7", which is not my impression at all.
