It's not "database abstraction" that I'm against, it's the Drupal-specific system known as DBTNG. We can have all the abstraction we need using PHP's PDO. We don't need DBTNG for abstraction (though that is a common misconception). Unfortunately for me, we are going to be keeping DBTNG in Backdrop. Removing it would require too much change for existing Drupal 7 modules. We will probably be moving it someplace else, and we'll stop using it in Backdrop core, but it's not going away entirely.
Formatting options
Basic
To post pieces of code, surround them with <code>...</code> tags. For PHP code, you can use <?php ... ?>, which will also color it based on syntax.
Web page addresses and email addresses turn into links automatically, unless the parent tag has the 'nolink' class.
Lines and paragraphs break automatically.
Allowed HTML tags: <a> <em> <strong> <blockquote> <code> <ul> <ol> <li> <div> <p> <br> <pre> <h2> <h3> <h4> <h5> <figure> <img> <figcaption> <hr>
