The reason we aren't using Twig in Backdrop 1.0 (but I'll still fight the good fight to get it into 2.0) is because we've seen what happens when we're allowed to change too much in one release cycle (se: Drupal 8). We'll be changing "enough" in Backdrop by adding CMI, Views, WYSIWYG, responsiveness, design improvements, general theme system cleanup, and all the bugfixes from D7 and D8. In order for upgrades to be easy, we have to draw the line somewhere. What's "broke" is the run-away train of changes. That's what we're aiming to fix by not including Twig.... yet!

Basic
To post pieces of code, surround them with <code>...</code> tags. For PHP code, you can use <?php ... ?>, which will also color it based on syntax.
Web page addresses and email addresses turn into links automatically, unless the parent tag has the 'nolink' class.
Lines and paragraphs break automatically.
