I think I still would, for new SMB sites. It's early days yet, but I suspect I am going to love all the new OO and plugin code, not least because it potentially allows very clean inheritance and overriding of more core functionality. That's something I have often found difficult and unsatisfactory in D6 and D7. For upgrading Drupal 7 sites, well, given the LTS proposals, that probably isn't going to happen until at least 2015 for any of my client sites, and by then I want to have enough D8 experience to handle it, if that turns out to be the best solution. So I'm keeping an open mind, and will certainly look at Backdrop if/when it gains momentum, but right now my feeling is that I should be learning D8 anyway - otherwise how can I make any kind of informed recommendation to my clients?

To post pieces of code, surround them with <code>...</code> tags. For PHP code, you can use <?php ... ?>, which will also color it based on syntax.
Web page addresses and email addresses turn into links automatically, unless the parent tag has the 'nolink' class.
Lines and paragraphs break automatically.
